The Boca Grande Community

Our unique and wonderful community of Boca Grande is located in the center of Gasparilla, a barrier island off the southwest coast of Florida. This breathtakingly beautiful island offers visitors and residents world-class natural scenery with serene white sand beaches, where you can share your days with pelicans, osprey, dolphins, and all of the natural flora and fauna indigenous to Southwest Florida.

We welcome you to come and participate in the healthy atmosphere of Boca Grande while enjoying the boating, fishing, golfing, tennis, biking, sailing, sunbathing and walking along miles of maintained bike paths and beaches. The village of Boca Grande offers interesting specialty shops, art galleries, and restaurants in a relaxing environment.

 

Gasparilla Island offers the "best" Tarpon fishing on the planet and hosts the annual "World's Richest Tarpon Tournament" which attracts anglers from all over the world. The sport fishing here is outstanding for tarpon, snook, redfish, spotted sea trout, grouper, snapper, kingfish, cobia, and many other species of salt-water game fish.

Boca Grande enjoys an impressive community center with facilities including an auditorium for town hall, live theatre, and group meetings, also a fitness center, lighted tennis courts, basketball court, and children's playground. The Boca Grande Health Clinic houses an outstanding medical clinic along with emergency medical services which can respond to any island emergency in four minutes or less. The county Sheriff's department and Marine Patrol staff are located across from the Health Clinic.

 

The discovery of phosphate and the railroad built to transport it in 1912 transformed the island from an economy solely based on fishing to one which brought many winter visitors from the North. Tarpon fishing and the mining of phosphate changed Gasparilla Island from a quiet outpost in the early 1900's to the favored vacation destination it is today.
